This fascinating and humorous talk is presented by internationally published, award-winning children’s author Aleesah Darlison. Aleesah provides a fascinating insight into her childhood growing up in the country surrounded by books and animals. Aleesah talks about her path to publication and how the little things in her life – both good and bad – have shaped her writing and her career. This talk provides inspiration to children follow their dreams no matter what.

Aleesah writes picture books, chapter books and novels. In seven short years, she has released nearly forty titles. Aleesah’s much-loved stories promote courage, understanding, anti-bullying, self-belief, friendship, teamwork and environmental themes. In 2015, Aleesah won the Environment Award for Children’s Literature (Non-Fiction) for her picture book, Our Class Tiger. In 2012, she was shortlisted for the same award for her picture book, Warambi, which was also a CBCA Notable Book. Aleesah has won numerous other awards for her writing including an Australian Society of Authors (ASA) mentorship. She is presenting a workshop on writing for children at WriteFest on Saturday October 7th, 1:15-4pm. Find out more
