About this opportunity
Rachael Donovan, commissioning editor from Harlequin, will be attending WriteFest on Saturday October 7th and conducting editor/writer interviews. This is an exciting opportunity for mid-level and established fiction writers to have their work read by a professional editor.
Interviews are by submission process only. Submissions have been extended until COB July 14th 2017.
Writers are required to fill in a submission form and submit the first 30 pages (in industry-standard format) of their manuscript, together with a covering letter addressed to Rachael Donovan, and a one to two-page single-line-spaced synopsis.
Applicants must be paying attendees of WriteFest on October 7th 2017 in order to be eligible for an interview with Rachael Donovan. Writers can book for the morning or afternoon sessions, or both.
Each application must be accompanied by the submission fee of $25. Please note that this fee is non-refundable. Further, applying for this opportunity and paying the application fee does not guarantee you an interview with Rachael Donovan.
Submissions should be emailed to Sasha Mackay: [email protected] Entry fee payments can be made on this webpage, via our online ticketing system. Submissions and entry fee can also be posted to Creative Regions Ltd, PO Box 44, Bundaberg, Queensland, 4670. Email submissions are preferred.
Submissions must be received by close of business Friday 14th July, 2017. As reading and assessing the submissions will take some time, we would appreciate writers submitting as early as possible.
All submissions will be read by a panel of experienced industry professionals and shortlisted submissions will be forwarded to Rachael for her to select which writers she will interview. There will be no correspondence regarding manuscripts between the panel and writers.
Successful applicants will be contacted approximately 3 weeks prior to WriteFest.
Any queries should be directed to Sasha Mackay, Associate Producer at Creative Regions. Email: [email protected] Details about WriteFest 2017 can be found on the Crush Festival website.
Meet Rachael Donovan
Rachael works with the Harlequin publishing team as commissioning editor. She has been in the Australian publishing industry for ten years and has worked in a variety of roles from administration and sales to editorial.
Rachael joined Hachette Australia as a division coordinator before branching out into product management and marketing in the heady days of YA Vampire romances. She crossed over into editorial with the local publishing division before moving to Allen & Unwin. There she worked with a creative (and crazy fun) children’s publishing team as a children’s editor.
Over the years Rachael has helped create books of fantasy, moving memoirs, kids’ picture books and war stories; but fiction is her one true love. Now she is dedicated to hunting down those compelling stories filled with unforgettable characters that you can’t put down.
For Harlequin, she’s focused on those stories that resonate with their core readership of smart and curious women. Their local publishing list publishes across genre, including women’s fiction, romance, domestic noir, historical epics and family saga.
