You have a story to tell, or ideas for stories, taken from your own life or elsewhere. The leading question, for established and emerging writers alike is: what is the best way to tell and structure the story? As fiction or non-fiction? Novel or memoir; short story or feature? The borderline between fiction and non-fiction is not as distinct as some assert. There are techniques common to both, and hybrids that cross the boundaries in daring ways.
At the heart of story, whatever the genre, is the art of imagination, the techniques of scene construction, and of writing place and character. As a writer who has published extensively in many genres, both fiction and non-fiction, Arnold Zable will take you through the processes by which a writer crafts a story, overcomes the inevitable blocks, and brings the idea to fruition. This masterclass will include discussion, feedback, talks and writing exercises.
This is a full-day masterclass. The 9am-4:30pm timeframe includes breaks for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Morning and afternoon teas are included in the ticket price, and lunch will be available for purchase.
