A memoir without a heart doesn’t work. If you ‘hold back’ when writing memoir, your story will lack emotional truth which will lead to problems with focus and structure. In this workshop Helena Pastor shares valuable lessons, tips and tricks for writing about the beauty, pain and emotional truths of one’s life with courage and confidence.
This workshop runs for 2.5 hours. The ticket price includes afternoon tea. Lunch will be available for purchase before the workshop begins.
Helena Pastor lives in Armidale and is the author of Wild Boys: A Parent’s Story of Tough Love (UQP, 2015). Her writing has attracted two Australian Society of Authors’ Mentorships, along with a number of residencies at Varuna Writers’ House and Bundanon. She has been teaching memoir and editing workshops to both beginners and more experienced writers since 2010. Helena is also a songwriter and lyricist, and recently collaborated with composer Christopher Purcell to write ‘Lullaby & Lament – A Song Cycle’. In 2016, she completed a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of New England.
